Abstract

This study analyzes land cover changes in Kanigoro District, Blitar Regency from 2019 to 2023 using a spatial approach with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The method used is descriptive quantitative, with data obtained through field surveys and official documents. Rapid urban development in Indonesia has transformed open spaces into residential and commercial areas, reducing green spaces and causing environmental issues such as frequent flooding and high air pollution. Kanigoro, as the capital of Blitar Regency, has been developing since 2005, making it an ideal location for this study. The tools used include Google Earth Engine (GEE), ArcGIS 10.6, and Avenza Maps, along with materials such as the Indonesian RBI map and Sentinel satellite imagery. The main techniques used are image cropping, geometric and radiometric correction, field verification, and overlay analysis. The study's results show a significant increase in built-up areas by 137.99 hectares, while open spaces decreased by 3.13 hectares, agricultural land decreased by 50.72 hectares, and vegetative cover decreased by 84.14 hectares. Roads and water bodies showed no significant changes. This study highlights the need for strategic planning to balance development and environmental sustainability in Kanigoro
