Abstract

In this article, the author describes one of the products of medieval Qur'anic exegesis, Zad al-Masir fi 'Ilmi at-Tafsir by Ibn Jawzi, a well-known scholar from Baghdad. In this work, he tries to present a more concise, concise, and easy-to-understand interpretation. The dishes he offered were based on the historical setting of the people at that time, who tended not to be able to understand the message of the Qur'an. With this, he tried to respond to the problems that occurred at that time with his work. Judging from the characteristics of the book, Ibn Jawzi uses the tahilili method with the bil matsur approach. The pattern in the interpretation is more dominant in the nuances of language. This can be seen when interpreting verses related to vocabulary. When interpreting a verse, Ibn al-Jawzi cites the opinions of qiraah priests or linguists. The intellectual background he obtained also influenced his interpretation, from a scientific point of view he was an expert on interpretation, hadith and fiqh. So it is not surprising that in his commentary many quoting hadiths and the opinions of scholars, Qira'at and linguists.
